my summer colors

summer colors are so much fun. they are bright and cheerful. i have 3 color choices this summer. the first being a cool turquoise, which reminds me of water. it's fresh & clean looking. just how i feel after a day at the beach. not only do i get relaxation in, i also get a little exfoliation action from the sand. makes me feel fresh & clean! the pink choice i've picked is a warm, romantic reminder of summer love. it's playful, looks great on many skin tones and is just fun! the grey i've chosen is a light charcoal. i love this color all year round, but i think it compliments the other colors well. this grey is fun to play with on the eyes too. there you have it, my summer colors for 2011!

a love like no other.

life with our best friend, cable "bud" is so rewarding. cable is a best friend to everyone that lives in my house. he is there when you are happy, ready to celebrate with you or when your sad and need to cuddle. he's loyal. cable was living in west virginia at an animal shelter. he and his 2 sisters had been left there. i'm assuming puppies they couldn't get rid of. the tails had been docked and they were healthy puppies, but they were going to be big! we went to adopt a sister because in the adoption ad, there was no boy shown as available. we went and it was love at first sight for my husband & that dog. he sat beside him the entire time as to say, i'm ready to go home daddy. they were drawn to one another and i was drawn to them. i knew that big boy was the one we would be leaving with. i also knew when my husband & i were naming names to name him that cable was his name as soon as denie said it. it was from the comic book, x-men.

cable is going to be 10 this year. he's taught me so much this decade. cable like his daddy is so kind, that you can't help but be a better person when your around them. we have done many things on this journey that i wonder how things would have been if we had not done them. however, getting cable was the best thing we did 10 years ago. he's our best friend.

baby bow ties.

one of my girlfriends is having her 3rd baby boy. we enjoyed a wonderful brunch to celebrate his approaching due date. i made bow tie cookies with m&ms and sprinkles. the dining room was decorated with adorable onesies that had bow ties...too cute!

no games or icebreakers here. we all just came together on a rainy sunday to celebrate our dear friend and her growing family which we all adore! brunch with baked french toast (to die for with strawberries & maple syrup, cheddar sasauge biscuits, cheese grits and fruit. a little mimosa, coffee & lemonade and it was the perfect menu for our intimate group of 12. we laughed and shared old & new stories. we watched a dear friend glow while she prepares to welcome her new little man with full bellies and full hearts.

clean out the underwear drawer.

sloan is almost 2 now. it's hard for me to believe that somedays. then again somedays it's hard for me to remember life before her. after being in labor for 2 days and trying to deliver naturally i ended up in the operating room. every second worth it. after the surgery high waisted underwear was the only option. i love my baby girl, but the day i finally got to clean out the underwear drawer and kick the granny panties (no offense granny's) to the curb was a sweet relief. i felt like i was coming back to the land of the living. who knew cleaning out an underwear drawer could charge such a sweet celebration!

summer lovin havin a blast!

time heals all wounds...not.

today is the annual relay for life here in hampton, va. it's a time when my family comes together to celebrate those in the family that have survived cancer and to honor those that did not. loosing my grandmother, great grandmother & great grandfather to cancer does not get easier with time. today i will visit the cemetery before heading out to the stadium and will spend part of the evening holding back tears or giving into them.

today is something else though. today is also a day where we come together to honor and celebrate remarkable people. tonight we will share laughs, hugs and happy tears for so many things good. you see with time it doesn't hurt any less that grandma, elizabeth creekmore is not here, but with time i appreciate life more and more each day. i choose to honor her by living my life to the fullest each day.

she went before meeting my baby girl, sloan elizabeth. grandma would have been tickled with sloan. sloan would have been her girl for sure. that hurts an awful way some days. it also is a constant reminder to live this life right. there are no promises that tomorrow will arrive in the way we expect it to, things could change in so many ways. a good greater than you thought you could ever know may happen or once in awhile a hard day. with grandma gone, her absence is a reminder to make the most of the moment. to enjoy one another's company. to be lifted by the hope that survivors can give us, that we will be given great moments in our life. while today i will have moments of hurt and sadness, i will focus on the fun and excitement of being with those i love. carrying grandma in our hearts everyday. for she continues to bring us together time and time again. thankful i am for all that's good.
